Summer 2010

This summer looks to be a busy time of ministry and outreach. Please pray for all those involved:

Sunday 18th – Friday 23rd July:

Ncounter is a great opportunity to reach out to our communities with the love of God in word and deed. This will be the third year that the young people from Carley will be involved. Most probably they will be serving on the Netherhall Estate with Laburnum Road Community Church, and then come to St Matthews in the evenings. Please keep those involved in your prayers: Rachel, Raphael, Raphaelina, Taurai, Lydia, Joanna, Naomi, Jonathan, Felix and Grace. Pray  that God will use them to make a lasting impact in the community. More information will be announced during the notices on Sunday mornings.

Saturday 24th -  31st July:

Joanna will be going on a beach mission with UBM. She will head down to Falmouth with friends from Young Life. Joanna last did a beach mission 3 years ago. Please pray for her and the team as they run activities on the beach for children and teach them about the love of God.

Monday 26th – Friday 30th July:

Lydia, Raphael, Taurai, Raphaelina, Peter, Jonathan and Naomi will all be leaders at the Faith Mission Camp at Harby for children ages 9-11. Please pray for them as they take on the responsibility of leading the children in quiet times and other matters of faith, and may their own testimonies of God’s grace be evident to the children. Please pray also for Nathan who will be attending the camp for the first time. Pray that what he already knows about Jesus will be reinforced and help him to grow in Him.

Monday 2nd - Friday 6th August:

Shanice, Geoffrey and Adam will be attending the second week of Faith Mission Camp. It will be Shanice’s first time. Please pray that they too will learn new things about Jesus that will have a lasting impact to their lives. Naomi also will be a leader.

Monday 2nd - Monday 9th August:

Joanna, and the Urban Mission team - Mark Paton, Thomas Rowland, and Jemimah Ward, will be going to Piatkow in south Poland to help Pastor Boleslaw Wysoczynski run a summer camp for 30 children from the surrounding cities and villages. Poland is a Catholic country and Pastor Boleslaw’s vision is to run Christian youth camps for children from poor families in purpose-built accommodation, and so to proclaim the gospel to the next generation.

To Joanna, this experience will be a fulfilment of a seed planted by Rob Briars and his travels to Poland, Tatarstan and Russia, which had left Joanna with an ambition to visit those places too.

Joanna: “We are going to be doing a variety activities including telling Bible stories through the use of puppets (mine is a monkey called Jack!), playing games with the children (lots of volleyball as it is the national sport) and also teaching them English children’s songs. I have also heard there might be personal training early in the mornings! We are also taking some craft items for the children to do, as these are scarce in Poland. As well as the craft items we are also taking hats, scarves and gloves, these will be given out to each child at the end of the camp as a present for attending. I am looking forward to what the week holds and hope to have lots of fun.”

Please pray for Joanna:  for preparation and finances (please see Joanna if you wish to make a gift); safety in travel; clear proclamation of the Gospel in word and deed; that children would meet with Jesus; and strengthening of the church at Piatkow.

Sunday 8th - Friday 13th August:

The third week of Faith Mission Camp (age 15+) will be attended by Naomi, Jonathan, Joanna, Lydia, Peter, Raphael, Raphaelina, Taurai, Paddy and Felix. As they enjoy fellowship with other Christians their age, pray that the ministry will strengthen and encourage them in their walk with Christ.

Saturday 14th - Thursday 19th August:

Grace will be returning for the fifth time to 'Girls Camp' at Stathern Lodge, Melton Mowbray. “I (Grace) will be one of the two main teachers again but this time I will be teaching the senior girls - aged 13 to 15. This years theme is 'First Love' which I feel is a very profound concept to think about in terms of our first love being Jesus. I would greatly value your prayers as I plan the sessions (8 in total) and as I deliver them. I truly want the Lord to speak to the girls through me and for there to be significant life-changing results.”

Monday 16th - Friday 20th August :

Last year a group from Carley went to a Christian festival called Soul survivor in Stafford. It was an incredible time of worship, teaching and camping! This year they will be going to the Bath and West Showground in Somerset. Please pray for safety in travel, for good weather and that the experiences there will challenge and motivate us to live more radically for God. Those that are going are: Rachel, Taurai, Lydia, Joanna, Felix, Paddy, Peter, Beth, Raphael and Raphaelina.

Friday 27th - Monday 30th August :

Family Camp will be taking place during the Bank Holiday weekend in August at Stathern Lodge. I (Grace) will be leading the youth sessions and again would value prayer as I prepare and deliver. Many of the people who attend are from Hindu families. Pray for the leaders of the adults' session too. Other's who are attending the camp are: my mother Damyanti, brother Naj and his wife Kirsten, Mohan, Annette, Joel, Bina, Alisha and Daniel.”
